The folly of man and the 10 commandments.

body:

I'm sure this will ruffle some feathers so please keep in mind this just my opinion and first impression.

In the book it cites "Exodus 20:2-14" and I guess I've never actually read it before, just a condensed 1 through 10 list.

This just doesn't sound like God, this sounds like some jerk trying to scare people into doing whats right, writing what he thinks God would sound like. I don't know if something was lost in translation but this passage comes off as insecure, unjust (directly punishing childrens children for sins of the parents? The effects maybe...), and gloating.

I'm convinced that this translation of Exodus 20:2-14 is bearing false witness to God.

I believe the seed of Gods intent is there in the main rules but I think mans folly is evident as well.

While its core rules are so general that they still apply they don't even BEGIN to adequately prepare people for a world where people/animals are being cloned, stem cells are used and tested on (check where stem cells come from), animal brains are being removed from their bodies and put into mechanical robots, and nature both plant and animal is being devastated, devoured, tested upon, and disrespected in new and frightening ways. I can provide links to anyone that was unaware that this is current reality and not future science fiction.

Dont even get me started on DNA manipulation of people, animals and even the food that we eat right NOW!

Then theres the internet! I mean seriously!!! Talk about the greatest thing in the history of man yet so insanely ripe for abuse! Yet its something they could not have conceived of back when many religious texts were written.

And apparently sculpture is evil, well then I need to repent and fast because as an artist I've done a lot of sculpture both real (clay and materials) and virtual (3d) and I think most museums would laugh at that one as well. I thought it meant just not of God but it specifically says nothing in heaven, on earth, or in the sea... I mean seriously? I know first hand that God loves art, its when I feel closest to the divine.

Wow I could go on forever but I'll spare you all :)
